Prospect in the Spotlight (May 3-4): Beatriz Consuli

Introduction

Saturday, May 4th, Brazilian flyweight prospect Beatriz Consuli will be in action for LFA, where she will be looking continue her undefeated ways against Patricia Batista. She will be looking for another win, as Consuli looks to inch closer to a UFC contract. She represents KO Squad MMA, an unknown camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”

Strengths

Grappling: Consuli is definitely a jiu-jitsu artist first and foremost. Most of her wins are by decision, but those fights are won by Consuli outgrappling her opponents. Her wrestling isn’t the strongest, as she has to spend a bit of time from close quarters to get her opponents to the mat. That said, her clinch and takedowns against the fence are actually quite good which help negate her outside wrestling shots needing improvement. Her only loss as an amateur came to now-UFC fighter Viktorya Dudkova, who outwrestled Consuli (it was only Consuli’s second amateur fight).

Overall Experience: Though Consuli only has three pro fights at this point, she is a very experienced amateur (12 fights) that were fought mostly for the IMMAF, the top amateur organization in the world. She fought the aforementioned Dudakova, as well as UFC roster member Eduarda Moura, who Consuli tapped out with a guillotine choke.

Needs Improvement

Extended Striking Exchanges: While Consuli is an excellent grappler and has decent fundamentals on the feet, when left on the feet striking for too long, Consuli will start to get touched a bit. In the second round of her last fight with Carol Foro, they struck for a little bit longer than the other rounds and Foro was able to touch Consuli a little bit. It’s likely what caused the split decision, though I am not sure what the third judge was watching as Consuli clearly won rounds one and three.

Outlook

UFC Midcarder: Consuli is a fighter that has a high ceiling, and given her experience and the fact she’s already an LFA vet, she will make the UFC at some point. She’s just 23 years old and she’s already this experienced and skilled. She will continue to get better and get more pro experience, which will make her a threat at 125 pounds. She will continue to get built up by LFA, as they are not rushing her into major fights at this point. A win over Batista does not get Consuli to the UFC, but it’s another stepping stone to her eventual move to MMA’s largest organization.
