Introduction
Friday, May 24th, Australian strawweight prospect Jacinta Austin will be in action for Eternal MMA, where she will be looking continue her winning ways against Amena Hadaya. She will be looking for another win, as Austin looks to inch closer to a UFC contract. She represents Carioti MMA, a smaller camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Technical Striking: Austin has a good Muay Thai-like style with good technical striking in combination with some flashy strikes. She will throw spinning attacks for flair, but she is very good fundamentally as well. She has solid clinch striking as well, using knees and dirty boxing. She also has some pro boxing and kickboxing experience, which she won. She is a handful to deal with on the feet.
Offensive Grappling: Austin has solid offensive wrestling, clinch and top pressure on the mat. That has been seen consistently throughout her career. She has two submission wins over Nyrene Crowley and Sofia Bagishvili by rear-naked choke. She consistently outgrapples her opponents and is very active from top position.
Needs Improvement
Submission Defense Question Mark: Austin’s last loss came by guillotine choke to Katharina Dalisda. To be fair, she was doing well in that fight before she got caught, but it seems to she put herself into that choke. I’d like to see some more defensive grappling work from Austin, as there are some question marks.
Outlook
UFC Midcarder: Austin is very talented and her only losses come to fellow top prospect Dalisda and UFC roster member Josefine Knutsson, which was a split decision. Her striking and grappling are both very good. And as with last week’s prospect in the spotlight featuring Lisa Kyriacou, whom Austin has beat, she will likely be looking to get on that UFC Perth card later this year. A win for the Eternal MMA belt over Hadaya could get her on that card.
