Introduction
Sunday, July 14th, Brazilian featherweight prospect Lorram Esteves will be in action for Fury FC, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Alfred Walker. He will be looking for another win, as Esteves looks to inch closer to a contract with the UFC. He represents 617 Fight Sports, a smaller camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Submission Grappling: Esteves is definitely the best when he is on the mat grappling with his opponents. Of his eight wins, six come by way of tapout. He has strong grip strength and is usually able to finish the fight when he gets a hold of a neck. He has a very good guillotine choke and a number or rear-naked choke finishes.
Needs Improvement
Extended Striking: When Esteves cannot get into his realm, which is on the mat, he can be exposed in his striking. Esteves has average striking ability, which puts him at a disadvantage when he’s unable to fight on the ground. This was seen in his loss to Dimetre Ivy, as well as 0-2 fighter Shaquan Moore.
Outlook
Regional Fighter: Unfortunately for Esteves, I don’t see him as a guy that will make a big league show like the UFC. He’s in his prime right now at 30, and I don’t see him as a guy that is that level. I think he will be relegated to the regional, albeit big regionals like Fury.
