Introduction
Tuesday, August 13th, Brazilian featherweight prospect Icaro Brito will be in action for Dana White’s Contender Series, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Ernie Juarez. He will be looking for another win, as Brito looks to score a contract with the UFC. He represents Fighting Nerds, a rapidly ascending camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Muay Thai: Brito’s striking is something to watch for, as it’s not only exciting, but technical and powerful. He uses all eight points of Muay Thai well and uses many different of those techniques to score finishes. Five of his seven wins have come by way of knockout, including a one-punch drubbing of Junior Duarte, a flying knee of Alisson Lopes, a brutal kick of Manoel Silva and some devastating elbows over Gustavo Henrique. Like most of the Fighting Nerds, he is aggressive in hunting down his opponents and does so with impunity.
Fight Camp: I cannot stop singing the praises of Fighting Nerds, a fight camp that has rapidly been on the rise for a few years now. That camp has given us savages like Caio Borralho, Carlos Prates, Jean Silva and Mauricio Ruffy, all of whom have taken the Contender Seres-to-UFC route. All have been very successful thus far, and I expect Brito to follow in their footsteps.
Needs Improvement
TBD: With limited footage of Brito, his improvements are to be decided right now. He is well-rounded and obviously a very good striker, but we will see if his ground game gets a major test when he takes on Gracie Stockton product Ernie Juarez.
Outlook
UFC Bonus Hunter: Given his exciting style and flashy, violent knockouts, Brito is a guy that the UFC is going to want to get their hands on and will. When he comes to their roster, Brito is a guy that will contend for Fight of the Night and Knockout of the Night bonuses. He will stick around for a while and become a guy who you want to watch once you see his name on the card. Most Fighting Nerds fighters are.
