Introduction
Tuesday, September 10th, Georgian bantamweight prospect Otar Tanzilov will be in action for Dana White’s Contender Series, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Josias Musasa. He will be looking for another win, as Tanzilov looks to score a contract with the UFC. He represents Spitfire Gym, a solid camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Striking: Tanzilov is an outstanding striker who is not only powerful, but flashy. He uses a wide range of techniques on the feet and is very good at mixing up his punches and kicks. Seven of his nine career wins come by way of knockout. Some of his most recent knockout wins have seen him one-punch KO over Eduardo Dinis, a body kick over Mohammad Dalvand, a jumping switch kick to the head of Rafael Ribeiro and a spinning back kick over Adem Vashakmadze. All of these knockouts were highlight reels.
Size/Length: For a bantamweight, Tanzilov is a good-sized fighter at 5’11” and a long fighter at that. That helps him in using his striking, as he can establish a long distance and then land on command while out of the reach of his opponents. It’s quite the advantage for a good striker like him, especially because he has long arms and legs for the division.
Needs Improvement
Step Up in Competition: So far, Tanzilov has built himself up by fighting mostly low-level talent. He has taken on a couple solid fighters, including his most recent fight against Khikmatillo Abdullaev, who was 8-1-2 at the time. Seeing how he’s demolished the competition so far, he may have a tough time finding opponents. Either way, he will get his step up now.
Outlook
UFC Midcarder: Tanzilov is very exciting and talented, which is why the UFC is targeting a guy like him. It’s no shocker that Dana White likes strikers, especially flashy ones. Tanzilov fits that bill. Not only that, he’s a guy that looks like he could be UFC level already. He has a fellow striker in Josias Musasa as his current task, so that will be a good task, especially given this will be an absolute fire fight.
