Introduction
Sunday, November 3rd, American lightweight prospect Mansher Khera will be in action for Fury FC, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Devon Dixon. He will be looking for another win, as Khera looks to inch closer to a contract with the UFC. He represents the UFC Gym Hoboken, a lesser-seen camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Jiu-Jitsu: Khera is a very talented grappler and that is seen throughout his pro MMA career. The New Jersey-based fighter has won all but one of his pro fights by way of submission. That includes five wins by rear-naked choke and one by way of arm-triangle choke. He’s an absolute anaconda on the mat with his squeeze power and slick in how he gets to finishing positions.
Combat Sport Experience: In addition to seven pro fights, Khera has an extensive professional grappling career that has seen him go against some real strong competition. He has competed in the world championship and ADCC games multiple times. He also has one bare knuckle MMA fight under his belt. So, if you see seven pro fights, don’t be fooled. This guy is way more experienced than advertised.
Needs Improvement
Extended Striking Exchanges: While Khera is an outstanding grappler, extended exchanges on the feet is where he needs to make up on. If he goes in against a guy with good takedown defense, Khera may run into some trouble. He’s good in short bursts before he gets to the ground, but if forced to bang on the feet for a while, he could be exposed. He must continue to work on that facet.
Outlook
UFC Prelim Fighter: Khera is clearly a guy with good enough skills to make the UFC roster, especially given how credentialed he is in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu department. He’s slowly worked his way up to tougher competition on the regional scene, and now has a chance to strike Fury FC gold. A gold strap around his waist would certainly get him to the UFC. There, he will face much larger tests in the form of top-level wrestlers and strikers who will really show his floor and ceiling as a fighter.
