Introduction
Friday, February 14th, English bantamweight prospect Louis Lee Scott will be in action for Ares FC, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Youssouf Binate. He will be looking for another win, as Scott looks to inch closer to a UFC contract. He represents Manchester Top Team, a solid camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Striking: Scott is called “Lightning” for a reason, as the Englishman is electric on the feet with his speed and power. Five of his eight wins have come by way of knockout, and even though his hands are clearly his bread and butter, he has also scored a head kick knockout of Sam Robinson in 2023. His footwork is very good and he takes great angles when he’s setting up his combinations, which is another reason he is so reliable on the feet.
Size/Youth: For a bantamweight who is just 24 years old and not completely built into his body yet, Scott is a good-sized 135er at 5’8″. That makes him somewhat lengthy which, when you combine it with his speed, makes him even more difficult to deal with on the feet. Longtime regional champion and journeyman Demarte Pena found this out in Scott’s last fight, when Scott secured the biggest win of his career.
Needs Improvement
Counter-Grappling: Although undefeated as a pro, Scott’s weaknesses were seen when he was an amateur when he was beaten by guys with stronger wrestling and grappling. He’s likely grown since then, though he’s not really fought a noted wrestler as a professional. His two most recent losses as an amateur game via guillotine choke and TKO from ground-and-pound. Those were over five years ago, though, and Scott has obviously evolved as a fighter, so we may see this gap closing as he continues to climb the ranks.
Outlook
UFC Top-30: Scott is a very good prospect and a guy to keep your eye on. As mentioned, he is a young guy right now and already very experienced between his eight pro fights and 16 amateur fights. He has the type of style that is tailor-made to a guy like Dana White, who loves exciting strikers who bring the finishes. He was supposed to be on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, but his contract with Ares FC prevented that. Hopefully we can see him get there or the UFC this year, as he has potential title contender in five years written all over him.
