Prospect in the Spotlight (Oct 24-25): Alisson Murilo

Introduction

Friday, October 24th, Brazilian flyweight prospect Alisson Murilo will be in action for MAC, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Fabio Henrique. He will be looking for another win, as Murilo looks to score a UFC contract. He represents Chute Boxe, a legendary camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”

Strengths

Muay Thai: Murilo is an especially fun striker to watch on the feet, as he’s an aggressive, technical Muay Thai stylist with fight-stopping power. He mixes his strikes well, using great kick and punch combinations that accumulate damage quickly. His straight punches are especially nasty, having the ability to put out his opponent’s lights with one shot.

Submissions: In addition to being an exciting, technical striker, Murilo is also a solid submission fighter, which is how most of his fights have actually been finishes. Six of his finishes are by submission, with his weapon of choice being the arm-triangle choke. That has been used four times to score his wins. On top, he is active and able to get to a finishing position quickly.

Needs Improvement

Counter-Wrestling: There isn’t a high sample size, but it’s clear that the biggest hole in Murilo’s game is his counter-wrestling, something that will be more greatly challenged once he starts moving up to the major leagues, especially in the United States. His two losses are to fellow top prospect Marcos Degli and Erick Viscondi, who had no problem striking with Murilo, but used offensive grappling to stifle his attacks.

Outlook

UFC Midcarder: Murilo is highly talented and entertainingly violent, two things that should attract attention from Dana White and co. He is just 24 years old, so he’s still a young fighter that has a lot of big things ahead of him. He’s fought for the LFA and Jungle Fight, so he also has experience in bigger promotions in Brazil. He has a tough fight against fellow prospect Fabio Henrique, but if he can get by him, he should be on the UFC’s door step.
