Introduction
Friday, November 7th, Brazilian welterweight prospect Reginaldo Junior will be in action for LFA, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Natan Mota. He will be looking for another win, as Junior looks to score a UFC contract. He represents Fighting Nerds, a top camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Power Striking: Don’t be at an arms length around Reginaldo Junior. The man is human dynamite. Junior isn’t going to be confused with Nieky Holzkien any time soon in terms of technical prowess, but the man can knock you out. Three of his last four wins have come by way of knockout, all of which were all violent and highlight worthy. Not only is he a good power striker, but…
Offensive Grappling: …he can also grapple well. The Fighting Nerds are all well-rounded, and Junior is no different. Whether off his back or on top, he has a solid submission game that has netted him four tapouts as a pro. Two of those are triangle chokes, showing he has a great offensive grappling game even off his back.
Needs Improvement
Counter-Wrestling: While Junior is good off his back and a solid grappler, he can be outwreslted and controlled against a fighter that likes to play the wrestling game. That will be especially apparent when he fights outside of Brazil and comes to the United States, where wrestlers come a dime a dozen.
Outlook
UFC Midcarder: Junior has a good trajectory, especially if he comes over to the UFC like I expect him to. Up first is Natan Mota, a fight that Junior should be able to take. If he does so, and does so in an impressive manner, I think he’s on the UFC’s shortlist of welterweights to get on the roster.
