Best Prospects of the Weekend (3/13-3/15)

After a slower week of regional MMA, we have a solid weekend in the regional MMA scene. Here are quick notes on ten prospects to look out for this weekend:

  1. Sean Mora (Bantamweight, Cuba/United States, CFFC): Well-rounded Cuban-American would be undefeated if not for a DQ earlier in his pro career. Otherwise, he’s been perfect. The finisher has a solid striking arsenal to go with a strong submission wrestling attack. He’s coming off the two biggest wins of his career coming into this CFFC Bantamweight Championship defense against Sebastian Ruiz. It’s Contender Series recruitment season, so a win could get him a secured spot on this season.
  2. Christian Natividad (Flyweight, United States, LFA): Undefeated LFA fighter Christian Natividad has been on the UFC radar for a hot minute, but perhaps his low finishing rate has held him back thus far. He fixed that in his most recent outing by scoring a TKO win. He’s a physical specimen who grinds on opponents and has a very heavy top game on the mat. He headlines the next LFA card this weekend against Adrian Garcia, who should be a good stylistic matchup and test Natividad further with the aforementioned Contender Series recruiting about.
  3. Amari Sengsavanh (Bantamweight, United States, LFA): Speaking of undefeated fighters competing at LFA, our under-the-radar prospect of the week is 8-0 Amari Sengsavanh, who makes his re-debut with the promotion this weekend. A product of the respected MMA Lab gym, Sengsavanh is well rounded and is a guy that looks for the finish. He has a solid, polished striking arsenal and a solid submission ability. He looks to put himself on the map in a crowded bantamweight picture against Carlos Tardio this weekend.
  4. Israel Galvan (Flyweight, United States, Tuff-n-Uff): For a regional fighter with 12 pro fights, Israel Galvan’s strength of schedule has been impressive, which makes his 9-3 record even the more impressive. The Syndicate MMA product is a tough-as-nails and aggressive, bringing an uncomfortable amount of pressure to his opponent in the cage. He has educated hands, which should not overshadow the fact he also has a solid submission game. He rides a strong four-fight win streak into this weekend, where he looks to add another win over Jose Sandoval.
  5. Omiel Brown (Lightweight, England, Cage Warriors): Rapidly ascending lightweight prospect Omiel Brown is the current Cage Warriors Champion, which he earned in his most recent bout. An underdog going into that title fight, Brown handed Omar Tugarev his first career loss in a balanced performance that left no doubt in the judge’s minds. His kickboxing seems to be his best quality, though his jiu-jitsu has been performing as his cage time as accumulated. His improvements from fight to fight are showing him to have a solid ceiling as a prospect. This weekend, he defends his belt for the first time when he fights Contender Series vet Samuel Silva.
  6. Ieuan Davies (Lightweight, Wales, Cage Warriors): On that same Cage Warriors card, another strong lightweight prospect in the form of Ieuan Davies is set to take the cage. A Tom Blackledge disciple (UFC vet), Davies is an outstanding grappler that has won all of his pro bouts by finish, with all but one being in the first round. They’ve all been by submission, except one which was by ground-and-pound. He has excellent technique on the mat, where he’s methodical in getting to finishing positions. He’s going to look to use his outstanding ground game when he fights Michael Pagani this weekend in an attempt to keep his perfect record.
  7. Adrian Bartosinski (Welterweight, Poland, KSW): Headlining the KSW card in Poland and looking for another KSW title defense, Adrian Bartosinski may be the best welterweight outside the UFC right now. An outstanding combat grappler, Bartosinski has a strong wrestling attack coupled with strong ground-and-pound and a solid submission arsenal. He has a BJJ black belt, further proof that his ground game is top notch. His title defense comes against veteran Madars Fleminas, which should be another notch in the belt of Bartosinski.
  8. Sergiusz Zajac (Light Heavyweight, Poland, KSW): Sticking in KSW, another of their top prospects is Sergiusz Zajac, a guy who has added some depth to the light heavyweight prospect ranks. A physical specimen, Zajac has a strong Muay Thai attack coupled with a nasty top game on the ground. He’s a brutal finisher, creating a highlight reel of violence with knees, elbows and punches. He looks to continue his path of destruction against countryman Damian Piwowarczyk, a 14-fight pro who won’t go down easy.
  9. Ewelina Wozniak (Women’s Strawweight, Poland, KSW): The last Polish prospect featured on this week’s list for KSW is Ewelina Wozniak, who has been atop the prospect lists at strawweight for a while. “The Mad Queen” is an ace grappler known for her wide arsenal of submission techniques and her ability to get the fight to the mat with takedowns and trips. Her biggest struggle has come when she’s beat to the punch en route to the mat, as she can be outgrappled by more offensive-minded opponents. She looks to extend her winning streak to three here, as she takes on French journeyman Eva Dourthe.
  10. Anthony Wint (Heavyweight, United States, Fury FC): Our final prospect of the week is former NFL player and current MMA Masters stable member Anthony Wint, a hulking heavyweight whose athleticism is at freakish levels. A powerhouse, Wint is heavy handed and quick for a man his size, which helps overwhelm the opposition. He headlines the Fury FC event against Jahmal Tatum in what could supercharge his journey to an eventual UFC opportunity.

LAST WEEK’S PROSPECT RESULTS:

  2. Mathilde Aschenbrenner made quick work of late-replacement opponent Diana Muzychenko, tapping her with a Peruvian necktie at the Hexagone event.

  4. John Sweeney was choked out via triangle in his Rizin debut against Shoko Sato.

  10. Moeri Suda scored a decision win over Namiko Kawabata on the Deep card in Japan.
