Prospect in the Spotlight (Nov 17-18): Baissangour Chamsoudinov

Introduction

Friday, November 17th, Russo-French welterweight prospect Baissangour Chamsoudinov will be in action for Ares FC, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Felix Klinkhammer. He will be looking for another win, as Chamdsoudinov looks to continue his undefeated streak in an attempt to get a UFC contract. He represents MMA Factory, a solid camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”

Strengths

Wrestling: Like a fellow Russo-French fighter in Abdoul Abdouraguimov, another top prospect, Chamsoudinov is a high-octane wrestler that relies heavily on the takesdowns and ground game to be successful. He has yet to show much of a submission game in an MMA cage so far, but he is dominating from top position and has some solid ground-and-pound. In his most recent outing, Chamsoudinov dominated Efrain Escudero using his grappling chops, which is impressive given Escudero’s experience and the fact that he’s a wrestler himself.

Physical Strength: Chamsoudinov is a massive welterweight. He is 5’10”, which is about normal or average for a guy at this weight class, but he’s physically a specimen. He has tremendous strength, which helps him with his aforementioned wrestling game. He has great grip strength and rag dolling ability. He’s still young, so he will likely pack on more muscle/strength, which is crazy to think about given his physical abilities.

Needs Improvement

Decision Machine: If there is one deterrent that Chamsoudinov might face in getting into the UFC, it’s that he’s been a decision machine so far. Dana White and the bosses are not the biggest fans of wrestling-heavy fighters that win by decision frequently. Also, Chamsoudinov does not have a ton of evidence of him striking for long periods of time, so that remains more of a question mark as well.

Outlook

UFC Top-25: Chamsoudinov is just 22 years old, so he’s got a long time left in this sport barring any unforeseen circumstances. This kid is already very good and his best years are well ahead of him. Seeing how good he is now, even given that he is a decision machine, he will be in the UFC in the near future. This guy is a blue chipper that has a chance to be in the top-25 in the UFC. He could even end up being ranked higher than that. He will continue to develop, improve and get to an elite level. I am confident about that.
