Prospect in the Spotlight (Feb 9-10): Fatima Kline

Introduction

Friday, February 9th, American strawweight prospect Fatima Kline will be in action for CFFC, where she will be looking continue her undefeated ways against Andressa Romero. She will be looking for another win, as Kline looks to inch closer to a UFC contract. She represents Silver Foxx BJJ, a lesser-known camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”

Strengths

Submission Grappling: Kline is a high-level grappler that has many pro jiu-jitsu bouts against credible opponents. In the cage, she shows off that prowess with her strong takedowns and positionally sound grappling. She is very technical on the mat and has solid ground-and-pound, both of which get her to more dominant positions. Her ground-and-pound earned her a win over Sidney Trillo. Also, she has just one submission, which is surprising, which came in her pro MMA debut against Ariana Melendez.

Strength: In addition to her submission grappling ability, Kline is a physically strong individual who can bully her opponents when she grabs a hold of them. She has a strong core and upper/lower body, which is why she’s able to muscle opponents on the mat and against the cage. That strength aids her in her game.

Needs Improvement

Step Up in Competition: Some people would say Kline needs to improve her striking, but I have seen her improvements from fight to fight. She is getting better and better on the feet. That said, she has fought some decent fighters like Laura Gallardo and Natasha Kuziutina, but she has yet to fight somebody on the major league level. When she eventually does, we could get a better gauge, but she has looked very strong so far.

Outlook

UFC Title Contender: Kline is obviously somebody making a beeline toward the UFC and I think it’s a matter of time before she is wearing a Venum fight kit. She’s improving every outing we see her, she’s only 23 and she’s already shown a very high level on the mat. In 4-5 years, she is going to hit her prime and she’s going to be a problem at 115 pounds. I would not be shocked to see her in the UFC title contention picture around that time.
