Introduction
Tuesday, August 19th, Mexican featherweight prospect Ramiro Jimenez will be in action for Dana White’s Contender Series, where he will be looking continue his winning ways against Tommy Cuozzi. He will be looking for another win, as Jimenez looks to score a UFC contract. He represents The GOAT Shed, a top camp in MMA. Let’s take a closer look at this prospect as this week’s “Prospect Spotlight.”
Strengths
Grappling from Top Position: Jimenez is a solid grappler with a solid submission arsenal, decent takedown ability and brutal ground-and-pound. He’s offensively minded on the mat, which is why he looks to get to the mat and working from top position when the grappling game is engaged. He also has a solid kimura, which he’s used to put away two opponents as a professional.
Kickboxing: Jimenez is a solid kickboxer that mixes up his strikes well and has good knockout power. On the feet, he has good movement and uses his aggression to get his opponents on their back foot. He lands with power and volume, a combo that helps him score finishes in the cage. His offensive output is impressive, which explains why most of his wins come by way of knockout.
Needs Improvement
Striking Defense/Getting into Dangerous Dog Fights: Jimenez has a very fun style that lends well to the eyes of the audience, but it can be at his own expense. He likes to get into barn burners, but the damage that comes with that can get him into trouble and could shorten his night. He’s physically tough, which is why he’s able last in his fights, but it’s not a great long-term plan for the future.
Outlook
UFC Prelim Fighter: Jimenez is one of the best prospects coming out of Mexico, as showcased by his undefeated 10-0 record. He has the talent to fight at the next level, in this case the UFC. There, he will win some and lose some, but either way, he will be a guy that graces the company’s roster for a little while.
